Ya 'Allah', Kya 'Raakha' in this Rahman* 🎧

It is just too much to bear. We are regressing as a society
and pushing ourselves to the wall. Our so-called secularism, unity and
sovereignty is dying slowly and we are hearing the *death rattle* from a distance.
😏😔
I was under the impression that NRIs, were our only saving
grace, as it's only when you are in another country, that one understands his
fellow country mates better. 😃
Alas! I've been mistaken. 🙇🏻🙎🏻♂🙅🏻♂
I'm a little disturbed after reading about the staged
walkout and social media angst towards Oscar-winner A.R. Rahman's Nandru,
Indru, Naalai concert in the UK, last week. 🎼🎹🥁
The man has entertained us for over two decades with his
soulful music, yet we curse at him for not playing *Hindi/Punjabi* numbers at
the concert. We honestly forget that, the *'Mozart of Madras'* is a
Tamil-speaking Indian, whose profession doesn't allow him pledge allegiance to
any particular language. He shot to fame, through his hit numbers in Tamil,
Telugu, before heading North, and has left us mesmerized, since. 🎷🎤🎬
He chooses to live a simple life, minus starry tantrums and
speak his mother tongue, just because he feels comfortable in it. 🎻😉
In spite of all this, he croons Hindi songs, just to ensure
that the music loving social fabric of India, across the nations and seven
seas, continue to love him. 😘😍😗
The UK concert had 65 percent Hindi songs and a part of the
concert was dedicated to other languages. I doff my hat in appreciation to him.
He ensured that all sections of his audience were entertained. Sticking to only
Hindi, wouldn't have really done justice to his talent. 💫🎸🎺
And come on, really? Why feel vindicated, when he begins
hearkening in a language beyond our comprehension? Aren't people at a music
concert, simply there to enjoy music and his compositions?
And if he sings *Patakha Kudi*, *Dil Se Re*, his conscience
will make him also sing *Urvashi-Urvashi* and *Kadhal Peseree* to maintain
linguistic balance, which India is well known for. 👥💃
Just wondering, if tomorrow, I mumble *Dil Lagi Kudi Gujarat
Di* and shift to a song from *Jeans (1999)*, will I be equally ridiculed for my
musical choices? 😝😚
Kindly grow up, people! In a land, with so many languages
and constantly doubling local dialects, let's understand that we aren't as
great as the language is and respecting it, by learning 20 words, can only make
us linguistically potent and gracious in accepting diversity. 😅👌
In the mean while, in 7 Indian languages, I open my heart
and say, "assitussi roti-shoti todo, njaan da poyituvaren. Nantar bhetu
aapan. Baitikki ostunaanu, malley alli majja maado aur hruday mai pyaar ke
dweep avashya jalaaye. Ellam padachonde kripa!"
(Translation: Let's break some bread together, and later I
shall return to meet up with you soon. Till then, venture in the outdoors,
enjoy the rains and light the 'lamp of love' among your hearts. Let the
Almighty bless us all!)
