#GilliDanda - Reliving the tradition

Image
Photo on VisualHunt.com Son of the soil sports in India As I begin sharing this article which harps upon a high-level plan to promote #GilliDanda in India, I would like to thank Mr. Prashant Yeole for inspiring me to write about the sport, and provide some necessary impetus for the game on social media. I have heard and learnt that this was one of the most beloved games of kids, before the tech disruption age happened. Gilli Danda (Stick Hit Trick) is an almost defunct, centuries old Indian sport game, which has unfortunately not been able to stand the test of times. This sport, generally played in the dingy, crowded by-lanes of India and neighboring countries, invites voracious laughs and cackles in equal measure. Vision: To relive an era gone by and promote this sport among the millennial crowd and Gen Z as well, who have titled towards cash rich and sup...

Thanks for the memories, Ivanka!

Photo: PTI It was a pleasure, I'm been told, and after reading articles online; to host the Adviser to the Trump Government, Ms. Ivanka Trump at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) in Hyderabad, during the last week of November, 2017 . It was the coming together of two decorated democratic nations, who feed off the positive vibes between them, and have always been committed towards maintaining a strong and strategic partnership across various fields. The arrival of Ivanka Trump for the # GES2017 , being held in South East Asia for the first time ever, shows the deep ties that both countries share, and their vision towards entrepreneurship, which has been essential for the growth stories o...

Make IT transparent, Make IT Work!

A revision of the haggard 60+ years Income Tax (IT) law , is a welcome move, IMO . The reform is a re-look at the taxation system, which a lot of people believe is skewed and makes Chartered Accountants(CA) revered. It's unfortunate that in a country of 1.3 billion, only 1.9 percent of people pay their taxes; the bulk being from the IT sector. Which brings me to the next question: 98 percent of SMEs, big businesses and other sectors, are evading taxes, which under a democratic rule is close to a punishable offence! Well, we all have a mindset of saving taxes, done through various monetary sc...

Demonetization - One Year Later!

Photo by Dr PS Sahana * Kadamtala Howrah on Visualhunt.com / CC BY Just wondering, if we should be chucking credit cards/debits cards in the air, acting as confetti for celebrations. On second thoughts, let me keep them safe, as making a new one could cost another couple of hundred rupees. Where were you on the evening of Nov 8, 2016? I'd suppose a lot of you, were leading normal, mundane lives, watching TV or surfing the internet, or basically doing what you all love. #Demonetization - a thoughtful, yet hurriedly implemented economic decision by the Government took the nation by storm. In just couple of hours, 86 percent of Indian currency was devalued, leading to mass hysteria and people sweating about what would happen to their hard ear...

My Anthem, My Respect. Get them standing!

I'm honestly glad a woman ( more specific: an actress ) has come out in the open and said that moral policing and forcefulness cannot be resorted to; in order to make an individual have national pride. Trust me, the love for the country lies in the psyche and heart of an individual. He/she seeks nationalism to connect with the motherland, and pay respects for being a "son/daughter of the soil." However, asking to display forced national pride, No Sir! Doesn't work that way. We are all proud to be citizens of a nation, that dea...

#DiwaliDash - Defining Happiness during Diwali!

Image
Photo via VisualHunt We dash to stores to tick-off the final shopping list and bolt towards the various hoardings of " SALE ". Welcome to the #DiwaliDash ! That month in the year, were any type of shopping isn't just enough! Going berserk is a normal emotion. Ever wondered what defines success during Diwali? Is it purchasing 9/10 things in the various dirt cheap sales around? Does it also mean to be the Fastest Finger First on online sales, or is it about making the right choices under budgets? The idea of splurging during Diwali has become a tradition of sorts, and everyone comes up with an excuse - " It's Diwali, boss. " I ponder why? While I'm no one to comment on an individual's spending propensity, the last minute Diwali Dash is a marketer's boon and retailer's field day. The hordes of people standing in queues, waiting to pay for items in the troll...

Strained Calf Muscles, Trained Tennis Admirers!

It gets people, known and unknown magnetize towards the game; to tussle childishly and learn a game better in the process. When people from different faiths, and walks of life pan-in together, with fitness and health on their mind; it gives everyone hope! P.S.- I too picked up a tennis racquet after close to decade, and must tell you, it felt like my love for the game was never lost! The #TennisClinic saw a sizable crowd on both days, all ecstatic towards investing their weekend, in a healthy retreat; when tennis was not a menace , possibly a penance towards ignoring body training for a while! Accredited coaches from...

Mayhem on the Expressway!

That was some ride. A trip from Mumbai to Pune, which generally gets covered in 2 hours, taking 4.5 hours can be an absolute pain. Especially, when members of the contingent are sleepy, and the night has fallen upon us. It's got to be Mayhem, when one sits in the backseat of an SUV, with the hope that traffic on an Expressway, is just a notion. With a jam packed SUV, and traffic, that showed no sign of movement, we, the delegation try to catch couple of winks to feel fresh, whenever we reached. Those extra 1.5 hours in traffic, ought to have been the most sweatiest and stuffiest, I or anyone else had encountered. We'd only heard of expressways being choc-a-bloc, how...
