To begin with, let me honestly render that this topic could be a bit controversial and would require all readers, to approach the thought process that has gone behind the article, with the right intent.
Toddlers and young kids (under 10 years of age) are extremely vulnerable these days, considering the fact that ethics, emotional bonds and family values seem to be dwindling. In the age of #achievingitall, we seem to be losing a grip on enjoying the growing up phase of our kids.
The atrocities committed against children are on the rise. Not picking out any particular city, dimwits are luring, man handling and committing crimes against them. This leads to loss of the purity of childhood and scars these children for life.
Is there anything that parents can do to avoid this situation? Unfortunately, the answer is transparent as ever. As kids born in the late 70s and 80s, we did have decent childhoods and in most cases had large families by our side. However, the current lot of children, are by products of nuclear families and enjoy a lot of freedom, however at the cost of danger lurking outside.
Here's what we can do as #parents, to safeguard them:
  • (i) Keep a watch on their schedules: The welfare of our kids is extremely important for all of us. Keep a watch on their schedules and create a communication window each day. This will facilitate in staying as strong knit unit
  • (ii) The Grandparents Love Saga: It's important to keep kids close to their grandparents (grand uncles, aunts, etc.). Ensure that well spaced and timely trips to native locations, and special occasions are celebrated in large groups. This will keep children connected to family and provide them avenues to maintain relationships too!
  • (iii) Reprimand, yet never raise a hand: Kids needs love to prosper, however there are occasions when reprimanding is important. Ensure that this is done in a closed environment, with much care, to make kids understand the importance of being good denizens
  • (iv) One meal a day together: No matter what, timezone or situation of the day, sparing 20 minutes a day, with your child, at the dinner table, physically or virtually (Skype, etc) can be a great way to connect. Remember, a family that dines together, shines together too!
While life gives its own twists, it's important to keep kids in all scheme of things and ensure their well being. Being good parents and seeing them prosper, is likeKryptonite!
Safeguard kids and keep them happy. That is the best way for them to enjoy the phase of childhood.
