Don't you just love this game? Tightening guts, beautiful centre courts, energetic ball boys and girls, fit-as-fiddle players and enthralled audiences.
Welcome to the local tennis tournament, with much fan fare, spring-in-their-feet kids and equally ping-pongy parents. Tennis doesn't feature in the top 10 sporting careers in India, but boy, has it grown in acceptance.
Local tennis tournaments look easy on the onset, however have a lot of preparation and ground work to be done. It needs tightly sewn team work, proper scheduling of rosters and much more.
Beyond just preparations, it needs the right stakeholders to be a part of the action, backstage and on-the-ground too! Each and every individual plays an important role, in making the event see the day of light, no matter how trivial it may seem.
The right gear, locker rooms, Dunlop/Cosco tennis balls, nets, umpire chairs, towels, head bands, wrist gears and lots more. Also, it is quintessential to take the buy-in of senior officials, who are the backbone of communication between local administrators and international bodies.
Within the rules of the game, lay the true emphasis of fair play and unearthing of champions.
Don't forget the food vendors, game stalls, medical kits, promotional hot air balloons and a funny mascot. The kids just adore clicking photos and jumping around it!And yes, the bouncy trampoline style air palaces - makes the kids go bananas!
So, if the fun-n-frolic can begin, do we concentrate on the game? Definitely, the chest thumping, action packed tennis is bound to leave us all speechless!
Backhand, Forehand, Lob, Rally and Smash. The baseline and half court battles shall begin soon!
