We dash to stores to tick-off the final shopping list and bolt towards the various hoardings of "SALE". Welcome to the #DiwaliDash! That month in the year, were any type of shopping isn't just enough! Going berserk is a normal emotion.
Ever wondered what defines success during Diwali? Is it purchasing 9/10 things in the various dirt cheap sales around? Does it also mean to be the Fastest Finger First on online sales, or is it about making the right choices under budgets? The idea of splurging during Diwali has become a tradition of sorts, and everyone comes up with an excuse - "It's Diwali, boss." I ponder why?
While I'm no one to comment on an individual's spending propensity, the last minute Diwali Dash is a marketer's boon and retailer's field day. The hordes of people standing in queues, waiting to pay for items in the trolley, within which 30 percent are typically unwanted, makes big brands go "YO!" with happiness. Just what they needed.
Yet, truth be told, the #DiwaliDash makes for great viewing. It's a spectacle to showcase how one festival can have the frenzy like none other. People go wild, with the intention to celebrate with the best clothes, lights, candles, food, crackers, sweets and what not! There are special budgets at households for alcohol and treats, which itself calls for special notice.
While we debate on and on, if the Diwali Dash can be avoided, certain sections of community, enjoy it thoroughly indeed. So, I sound the conch, simply because people love it!
By the way, did that conch call mean there's a new SALE around? Or was that a notification on my mobile phone for some new offers on an e-tailer's website?
Enjoy Diwali with these dashes, and fill up any blanks in your life, with spells of happiness, good health, peace and prosperity. Ring in the Indian New Year, with much joy, 'juice', jalebis and jeeravan-accompanied snacks!
