Watching 'Anand' and realising the meaning of 'Happiness!'

The movie 'Anand' is in particular, one of those movies, which a viewer can watch to give a kick to his/her guts or even when on a quest to find the purpose of life. It is considered as *a gem in the annals of Indian cinema and deals with the topic of leading a gleeful life, interspersed with the sound of the death knell, which we all are wary about at some point in time.* ๐Ÿ˜‡

#Anand brought together an acclaimed superstar and a budding one together, to create a unique bond, that crept into the psyche of the viewer and left them spellbound. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Starring *Late Rajesh Khanna* and *BBC award Star of the Millennium, Shri Amitabh Bachchan*, this movie begins at the book launch of Dr. Bhaskar Banerjee, a.k.a (Bachchan), who honestly proclaims that his book *Anand* is not a work of fiction, however a series of events in chronological order, noted in his personal diary on a daily basis. ๐Ÿ“”

Dr. Banerjee admits to the audience, that while he wrote this book, he wasn't in the right frame of mind, due to epidemic of malaria and other water-borne diseases, which had plagued the nation. He constantly tried to understand, why the Government had no answer or medical plan to help those below-the-poverty-line have access to medical facilities. ๐ŸŒก๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿš‘

While his medical colleague, Dr. Kulkarni made good money, treating rich patients on ailments, which we are pure figment of their imagination, Dr. Banerjee tried to reason with him, as how he could turn around such a noble profession into a money-churning business. ๐Ÿ’ณ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ธ

A chance letter (snail mail) from one of their colleagues from Delhi, introduces the viewer to a happy-go-lucky, cherubic and full-of-life character named "Anand." ๐Ÿ˜…

Anand a.k.a (Khanna) had the charisma and the pep talk spiced with non-personal jibes to bring the whole house down. His approach towards living life by every passing moment, with a smile, made everyone connect with him instantly.

However, behind his 10,000 watts smile, lay a medical complication that only the doctors knew of - *Lymphcercoma of the Intestine*, a cancerous ailment, which had no cure in the early 70s. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜ท

In spite of his dwindling health condition, Anand never lets a dull moment pass by and ensured that he would hold death by the "scruff of its neck" as long as he could.

His chance encounters with Dr. Banerjee's love interest,๐Ÿ˜ his respectful demeanour towards Dr. Kulkarni's wife ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผand alliances with Issa Bhai (a theatre actor) ๐Ÿคก are scenes in the movie that bring about some wonderful rib-tickling moments. He wins hearts with his "chatter-box" style of talking and the "emotional net" he weaves around them. ๐Ÿ‘ฅ

As days and months pass by, Anand starts losing the support of his vital organs and begins feeling the effects of cancer, eat into his body on a daily basis. ๐Ÿ˜ต

A flailing body never has respite from Anand's antics and he even peps up the serious Dr. Banerjee to record their voice on a tape recorder, to ensure that their melancholy of human voices remains etched forever. ๐Ÿ“ป

The dialogues recorded are considered cult among cinema lovers and pass a meaningful message to all! ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ”ฎ

Prayers, fasts and constant medication begin, all with a hope that a miracle happens and Anand recovers from this death infesting disease. ๐Ÿ”‹⛪

Anand struggles through the last phase of his ailment, however never keeps anyone's spirits low. He even goes up to the extent of believing that there is a better place awaits him in the *nether world* ๐Ÿ’บ๐Ÿš€

As death hour strikes, Dr. Banerjee runs helter skelter just to give one final push for medical glory and allow Anand the opportunity to live to tell-a-tale.

*Babumoshai*, shouts Anand, a name he uses constantly in the movie, to call out Dr. Banerjee with affection, as he takes his final streams of breath. Dr. Banerjee screams, as he enters the room and shakes Anand's lifeless body wildly, with the hope of getting a word out of him.

Just when all seems over, the tape recorder plays and Anand's voice reverberates in that "gloom room," with an epic dialogue, that shall be remembered for generations:

*Babumoshai, hum sab iss rang manch ki katputliyan hai, jiski dorr upar waale me haath mai hai. Kaun, kab, kidhar, kahan Kya hoga, koi nahi keh sakta"* - Translation

*"My friend, we are all mere puppets on earth, stringed to the fingers of the Almighty. We have no clue what can happen in the next moment, however we just live on with HOPE!"* ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ˜‘

The closing line of the movie, says it all, *"Anand mara nahi, Anand marte nahin."* -
Translation -

*Anand shall live forever, Happiness can never ever be extinguished.* ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜€

An *once-in-a-lifetime* movie and definitely one that merits to be a part of any movie lover's collection. ๐Ÿ’ฝ๐Ÿ“บ
