Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 1 & Part 2 - A Cult in Indian Cinema

#GangsOfWasseypur (1&2):

If cult movies, have to be ever recalled in Indian cinema, #GoW series would create a different niche for themselves. 🎥

With a simple story line, set in the the areas adjoining Dhanbad, the movie chronicles the lives of Sardar Khan, Faisal Khan and Ramadhir Singh who were caught in the battle of lordship over the coal-rich sections of Bihar (now: Jharkhand). The only motto of these goons-turned politicos was to use brute force, blazing guns and cold blooded murder as their mediums to gain advantage over the communities and businesses around. 💣

The movie uses foul, abusive and extremely blasphemous language to drive it's point into the minds of the viewers and also captures the local dialect well (Bhojpuri/Maithali-themed Hindi).

In terms of power-packed performances, Manoj Bajpai steals the show in Part 1 as Sardar Khan, who is a vagabound in his early life, yet however finds solace in being a robinhood-inspired goon for the people of Wasseypur.

Tigmanshu Dhulia, plays his part to perfection as Ramadhir Singh, the politically influenced goon-cum-minister, whose only aim in life, pans out towards eliminating the stranglehold of Sardar Khan in matters within Wasseypur, along with a big foot on the coal industry. ⚔

Richa Chaddha (Part 1 & Part 2) plays her part as Sardar Khan's wife and widow to perfection. The vulnerability of being associated with goons is well portrayed throughout her character. 👩🏻‍🎤

Huma Qureishi, as Mohsina Khan, wife of Faisal Khan, the lungi-donning, cold blooded murdered and vengeance-filled don, does justice to her role and sings a special song to Faisal, whenever the chips are down. Her role as Faisal's support system is fantastic. 👩🏻‍🔧

Piyush Mishra, as Sardar Khan and later Faisal Khan's trusted aide, plays his part perfectly. A special mention for Piyush towards being the lifeline of the movie, without being too much in the face. His character was tailor-made exclusively for his calm demeanour and conniving mind.

However, the standout performer in the series (Part 2 in particular) has to be Nawazuddin Siddiqui, a.k.a Faisal Khan. The series would've panned out into yet another gang war related reel,  if it weren't for his performance. The viewer can actually feel being in his shoes. I bow in appreciation towards his dialogue delivery, especially his now cult "Baap Ka, Dada Ka, Bhai Ka, Sabka Badla legal tera ye Phaijal!' dialogue. He invokes his passion towards becoming a mafia lord, through the anguish of seeing his father (Sardar Khan) being massacred in broad daylight, along with some illicit relationships, his mother had to involve herself into, due to their economic instability. 😡⛓🚬

Beginning as a barbiturate-smoking chimp towards becoming the most feared goon in Wasseypur and the whole of Jharkhand, Nawazuddin's role will simply go down as a role-of-a-lifetime. Only he could've done justice to it! Period! The anger in his eyes, the stylish Rayban shades, the near skeleton body frame of his and his foul mouthed dialogue delivery, even during love making scenes are exceptional! 🔦🔪⚰💉🚼

Nawazuddin deserves all the accolades towards making #GoW as movie to cherish and archive, for future viewing.

#SaalaFaisalwaa Sulta diya be! Kudos to Anurag Kashyap for thinking on these lines and directing  an amazing movie series! 📹💡

Watch this movie series most definitely, however parental guidance is advised! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Have a great time at the movies! #SardarKhanFaisalwaMaaKasam!
